Santee Coastal Reserve

Santee Coastal Reserve is a 24,000-acre Wildlife Management Area near McClellanville, South Carolina, established in 1974 by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources with land donated by The Nature Conservancy. The reserve offers eight primitive campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis with a four-day stay limit. No reservations or permits are required. Camping is primitive with no water, electric, or dump station services. The area features spacious, relatively flat sites suitable for tents and RVs. Recreational opportunities include hiking, cycling, bird-watching, and wildlife viewing (alligators, various bird species). Trails include the Cape Trail (4.3 miles, closed November 1–February 8 for hunting), Marshland Trail (1.9 miles), and Woodland Trail (1.1 miles). The reserve is closed to visitors during scheduled hunts but otherwise open during daylight hours for primitive camping overnight.
