SAND FLAT (Campground) Additional Info: Located along the banks of the South Fork American River, approximately 28 miles east of Placerville on the south side of Highway 50. Elevation 3,900 feet. The campground features vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings. Potable water is available. Single units are limited to 2 vehicles and 6 people per site; double units are limited to 4 vehicles and 12 people. Maximum stay limit is 14 days per district per year. Check-in at 2:00 p.m., check-out at 1:00 p.m. Pets must be kept on a leash. Horses and pack animals are not allowed. Groceries, gas, and cafe available at nearby Kyburz. Multiple hiking trailheads in the area.
