About this site
S Rock Camp is a designated dispersed camping site located in the Hyalite Recreation Area of Custer Gallatin National Forest, within the Hyalite-Porcupine-Buffalo Horn Wilderness Study Area. This remote site sits in the rugged Gallatin Range approximately 17 miles south of Bozeman, Montana. The Hyalite Canyon area is a popular recreation corridor offering abundant outdoor opportunities including hiking, fishing, and access to wilderness trails. As a designated dispersed site, camping is only permitted at signed locations marked with a tent symbol. The area is managed with specific regulations to protect the Hyalite drainage, which serves as a primary contributor to Bozeman's water system. Campfires must be completely contained in permanent metal fire rings at established campsites.
