About this site

Roche-A-Cri State Park Campground, established in 1948, protects a unique 300-foot sandstone outcropping in central Wisconsin while offering peaceful rustic camping from late spring through early fall. The campground features 41 sites total, including 4 electric sites, 2 walk-in tent sites, 1 dedicated tent-only site, and 33 sites that accommodate both trailers and tents. One ADA-accessible site features electricity, a hard-surface pad with grill, and an asphalt path to accessible vault toilets. The name Roche-A-Cri comes from French words meaning "screaming rock," referring to the dramatic rock outcropping that towers over the landscape. Campers can climb a stairway to the summit for panoramic views of the surrounding prairie. The park also protects ancient Native American petroglyphs and pictographs etched into the rock face, with interpretive wayside exhibits providing historical context. Campground amenities are rustic and include vault toilets, drinking water fountains, and a dump station near the park office. Flush toilets and showers are not available. The park offers hiking trails, fishing opportunities at nearby Carter Creek, and firewood available for purchase during office hours. The park grounds are open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, and a Wisconsin State Park vehicle admission sticker is required. Additional Info: Camping rates range from $20 to $32 per night. The campground is open seasonally from late spring through early fall. Large RVs can access the campground with few tight turns or narrow roads.
