Red Lake State Forest

Red Lake State Forest is a Minnesota state forest located primarily in Beltrami County, with portions extending into Koochiching County. The forest borders Pine Island State Forest to the east and Upper Red Lake to the west. Dispersed camping is available throughout the forest at no fee, at least 1 mile outside of developed campground areas. Dispersed sites typically include fire rings, toilets, and picnic tables. Boat-in campsites are available for travelers on the Big Fork River State Water Trail. Popular recreational activities include fishing, hunting, hiking, and snowmobiling in winter. Summer camping is limited to 14 days; winter camping is limited to 21 days between the second Sunday in September and the first Saturday in May.
