About this site
Red Creek Campground is a primitive, small campground located in Monongahela National Forest on top of the Allegheny Plateau within the Dolly Sods Scenic Area, approximately 20 miles northwest of Petersburg, West Virginia and 24 miles north of Seneca Rocks. The climate and plant life resemble Northern Canada. The campground features 12 rustic campsites with pit toilets and pump water. Open mid-April to December. The area features unusual plant communities with flowering laurel, rhododendron, and azaleas highlighting the landscape from May through June. Huckleberry picking is popular in July, and bird banding occurs in late summer and fall. Additional Info: Activities include camping, hiking, sightseeing, backpacking, cross-country skiing, and swimming holes. The Recreation Area offers views from the top of the plateau at many locations along the road.
