Portage Cove State Recreation Site is a primitive walk-in/bike-in tent-only camping area managed by Alaska State Parks, located less than a mile south of Haines near the cruise ship dock. The site features 5 campsites situated near the water with views of Portage Cove and the Chilkat Mountains. Amenities include fire rings at each site, a vault toilet, drinking water from a spigot, and a scenic overlook trail through the forest. No vehicle access, showers, or hookups are available.
