Portage Bay State Forest Campground
About this site
Portage Bay State Forest Campground is a remote and rustic 23-site campground located on the Garden Peninsula in Delta County, Upper Michigan, along the shores of Lake Michigan. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations. Most sites are waterfront or offer lake views, with direct beach access. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Amenities include vault toilets and a hand pump well for drinking water. A boat launch is located just south of the campground. The narrow, twisty access road (12.75 Lane/Porter's Bay Road) is not recommended for larger RVs. There are no electric, water, or sewer hookups, showers, or garbage receptacles—visitors must pack out all trash. The campground is ideal for fishing, swimming, paddling, and enjoying a peaceful, technology-free retreat in nature.
