Pitchstone Plateau

Pitchstone Plateau features backcountry campsites along the 16.3-mile Pitchstone Plateau Trail in Yellowstone National Park, accessed from the Phantom/Pitchstone Trailhead on the west side of the South Entrance Road. The trail rises onto one of the park's youngest lava flows. Designated backcountry campsites are located along the trail, including around the 6-mile mark. Overnight camping requires a permit from the Backcountry Office. Campfires are allowed only in designated fire rings at established campsites. Bear safety precautions required: carry 35 feet of rope, do not leave attractants unattended.
