About this site

This campground is tucked away in tall stands of ponderosa pines and white fir that offers shade in the hot summer months. Hiking trails are extensive in this area. At least eight trails can be found within one mile of Pinal and Six Shooter Campgrounds offering spectacular views. Both Pinal and Six Shooter Campgrounds are located on a site formerly occupied by the US Army that used it as a heliographic signaling (using mirrors to reflect sunlight) station during the late 1800s. Six Shooter, the larger of the two campgrounds, has 12 camp units and Pinal has 4 units. Additional Info: Pinal Campground is located in the Pinal Mountains of Tonto National Forest, approximately 14.5 miles southwest of Globe, Arizona, at an elevation of approximately 6,200 feet. The campground is surrounded by old growth forest including oak, pine, and hackberry trees. Access requires traveling 10 miles on unpaved Forest Road 651, a narrow winding mountain gravel road. The campground operates year-round, although winters receive snowfall and the access road may become impassable. There is a 14-day stay limit. No water, trash services, or electric hookups are available; campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash. Trailers over 16 feet are not recommended. Fires are allowed in designated areas only, subject to fire restrictions.
