Paxson Lake Campground

Paxson Lake Campground is a BLM-managed campground located at Mile 175 of the Richardson Highway near Paxson, Alaska. The campground offers 50 wooded campsites along Paxson Lake, including 2 accessible sites and 10 walk-in sites. All sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis and feature picnic tables, fire rings, and access to water. Amenities include vault toilets, a hand pump well, a large boat launch with parking for 70 vehicles, and an RV dump station ($10 fee for non-campers). The campground is surrounded by spruce forest with lake access and serves as a base for fishing (rainbow trout, grayling, burbot), boating on Paxson Lake, and exploring the nearby Alaska Range. The Gulkana Wild and Scenic River is accessible from the boat launch. Seasonal access is typically May 30 (Memorial Day) through early September (Labor Day), weather dependent. Located approximately 3.5 hours south of Fairbanks or 1.5 hours north of Glennallen via the paved Richardson Highway.
