Patos Island Campsite 4 is one of the limited campsites in Active Cove on this remote 200-acre island in the Salish Sea, the northwestern-most point in the lower 48 states. Accessible only by watercraft with no commercial ferry service. First-come, first-served basis. Very primitive with no fresh water available on site. Open year round. Recreational activities include hiking, camping, boating, sea kayaking, wildlife watching, and wildflower viewing. A rustic hiking trail leads from the camping area to the historic lighthouse and north shore. Cooperatively managed by BLM and Washington State Parks. Park fees may apply. Additional Info: Nearest boat launches: Point Roberts Marina (13 miles north), Blaine Harbor (11 miles northeast), Squallicum Harbor in Bellingham (24 miles east). Small interpretive museum at lighthouse weekends June-September, weather and volunteers permitting.
