Patos Island Campsite 2
About this site
Patos Island is a wild and remote 200-acre island in the beautiful Salish Sea, located five miles northwest of Orcas Island in San Juan County. It is the northwestern-most point in the lower 48 states. The island is only accessible by watercraft; there is no commercial ferry service. Nearest launch sites are at Point Roberts Marina (13 miles north), Blaine Harbor (11 miles northeast), and Squallicum Harbor in Bellingham (24 miles east). Seven primitive campsites are located in Active Cove and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Each campsite has a picnic table and fire ring. Visitor facilities include a vault toilet, 1 picnic area, and 2 mooring buoys. There is no potable water or garbage service on the island. Recreational activities include hiking, camping, boating, sea kayaking, wildlife watching, and viewing wildflowers. A lighthouse built in 1893 stands on the western end of the island and can be toured in summer. The island is open year-round and is cooperatively managed by the BLM and Washington State Parks.
