Panthertown Shelter

Panthertown Shelter is a three-sided Adirondack-style shelter located on the Great Wall Trail (FS#489) in the Panthertown Valley Backcountry Area of Nantahala National Forest. It provides basic overnight shelter for backpackers in this primitive backcountry area with no amenities. Camping is permitted throughout Panthertown Valley with no permits or fees required; groups limited to 12 people per site and no camping within 50 feet of streams. Additional Info: Panthertown Valley features over 25 miles of trails, waterfalls, and year-round access. Access requires hiking from trailheads like Salt Rock Gap; rough 4WD roads to parking.
