Onaway State Park Campground
About this site
Onaway State Park Campground occupies a scenic 158-acre site on the southeast shore of Black Lake in Presque Isle County. The campground features 82 modern sites divided between two distinct areas: the upper campground nestled among towering white pines with lake views from the east side, and the lower campground surrounded by cedar trees offering direct lakeside sites. Electric hookups are available at sites, and the campground features a sanitation station with potable water. A Shoreview Camper Cabin is also available, sleeping six people with basic amenities including a mini refrigerator, microwave, and electric heater. Beyond camping, the park offers a buoyed swim beach, boat launch, playground, picnic areas with charcoal grills, and the newly built Onaway Pavilion featuring modern amenities and a wood-burning fireplace. The 3-mile nature trail loops through the park showcasing cobblestone beaches, unique rock outcroppings, and diverse forest stands. Paddlesport rentals (canoes and kayaks) are available seasonally. Nearby attractions include Ocqueoc Falls, Michigan's largest Lower Peninsula waterfall just 10 miles east, and the town of Onaway, known as the "Sturgeon Capital of Michigan."
