Northwest Cape
About this site
Backcountry Northwest Cape in Everglades National Park features flat, marshy terrain typical of the region. This beach campsite is an open shelly sand beach with no shade. It is exposed to sun and wind in all directions. Mosquitoes and sandflies may be a present year round. Raccoons are in the area; store food and water in appropriately (hard sided containers). Beautiful sunsets and a sense of wilderness solitude will reward campers here, at this least frequented of the three Cape Sable beaches. Additional Info: Accessible by powerboat, canoe or kayak via Florida Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. The site is open; canoes and kayaks should be pulled far onto shore in case the wind picks up. Powerboats should anchor from the bow in unfavorable weather to avoid swamping.
