Murphy Lake Campground
About this site
Murphy Lake Campground is located in the Kootenai National Forest in northwestern Montana, near the Tobacco Plains area of Lincoln County. Positioned at approximately 3,000 feet elevation, the campground sits along the shores of Murphy Lake, northwest of Dickey Lake. A ranger station is also located nearby on the lake's shore. The lake and surrounding area offer opportunities for fishing, hiking, and wildlife viewing. Murphy Lake is known for its fishing and hosts the Ryan Wagner Memorial Scholarship Ice Fishing Derby each year in late February. The area features wetlands and wooded shoreline with lush undergrowth, and visitors may encounter moose and waterfowl. A short trail provides access around portions of the lake. As a Forest Service facility in this region, the campground operates seasonally during summer months and is closed during winter. The remote location offers a quiet camping experience in a pristine wilderness setting within the national forest.
