Minam State Recreation Area
About this site
Minam State Recreation Area is a state park in Oregon located along the Wallowa River in Wallowa County, administered by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. The park covers about 600 acres and is situated off Oregon Route 82, roughly 15 miles northeast of Elgin. It offers a remote, steep‑valley setting dominated by large pine trees, with the Wallowa River flowing through the park and providing opportunities for fishing, rafting, and boating. The campground consists of 22 primitive campsites that are first‑come, first‑served and suitable for both tents and RVs. Sites include water access, vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings. There are no electrical hookups, but water is available at collection points. The campground loop is accessed via a narrow gravel road and includes some ADA‑accessible sites and overflow parking. Recreational activities include steelhead fishing in the spring and fall, river rafting, hiking, and wildlife viewing. Common wildlife includes deer, bear, elk, and an occasional cougar. The park is generally open year‑round, though camping is typically closed in winter; maximum stay is limited to 2 consecutive days within a 7‑day period.
