Mescalero Wilderness Campground

Mescalero Wilderness Campground is a primitive backcountry camping area in Guadalupe Mountains National Park, accessible only by foot trail on the Tejas Trail, 6.2 miles from Pine Springs Trailhead or 4.7 miles from Dog Canyon. It offers 8 designated tent sites in ponderosa pine and brush on a slope overlooking a small drainage, serving as a base camp for high country exploration. A wilderness use permit is required ($6 reservation fee + $6 per person per night), available via Recreation.gov or walk-up at Pine Springs Visitor Center. No water, toilets, or amenities; carry all water (1 gallon/person/day), use landfill-safe toilet bags, pack out trash. Campfires prohibited; use containerized fuel stoves only. Pets not allowed. Additional Info: Situated at the crossroads of high country trails with wild turkeys audible nearby.
