McKittrick Ridge Wilderness Campground is a remote backcountry camping area located on a high ridge within Guadalupe Mountains National Park at 7,716 feet elevation. The campground features 8 primitive wilderness campsites accessible only by foot trail, typically via the strenuous 7.6-mile McKittrick Canyon Trail from the trailhead that climbs over 2,700 feet. A wilderness use permit is required for all overnight camping ($6 permit fee + $6 per person per night), available through Recreation.gov or at Pine Springs Visitor Center with mandatory check-in. Campfires are prohibited; only containerized fuel stoves permitted. McKittrick Canyon below is day-use only.
