Mason Lake Backcountry Camping

Mason Lake is a backcountry camping destination in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness near Snoqualmie Pass, Washington. The lake is accessed via the Ira Spring Trail, requiring a hike of approximately 3.8 miles from the trailhead parking area on FR-9031 (Mason Lake Road). The site features designated camping areas with a backcountry privy. Mason Lake is a small but deep alpine pool populated with rainbow trout, offering views of Bandera Mountain and surrounding tree-lined slopes. Camping is free and does not require permits, though a NW Forest Pass or Interagency Pass is required for parking at the trailhead. The site is popular for weekend backpacking trips.

Short, tough hike, but the view will keep you going. The camping spots up at the lake are a little lumpy. The trail is pretty popular, at least on the weekend. After reaching the camp area, Mt. Defiance offers a great challenge and a terrific view of the mountains around you.
