Mann Lake Recreation Site
About this site
Located below the east face of Steens Mountain, Mann Lake Recreation Site is a primitive BLM recreation area with roughly a dozen widely spaced campsites, some accommodating pull-through RVs. The site features two vault restrooms as its only amenities. Visitors must bring their own water, shade, and shelter. Mann Lake is stocked with Lahontan cutthroat trout and is known as one of the premiere trout fisheries in southeast Oregon, with fish ranging from 12 to 20 inches. The shallow 200-acre lake features extensive weed beds and great shorelines for wading. Anglers typically visit from March through October. Recreation includes fishing, camping, hiking, wildlife viewing (pronghorn antelope, quail, chukar), and rock hounding for thunder eggs and agates. The site is accessible by all-weather gravel road, approximately 90 miles southeast of Burns. Camping is limited to 14 days.
