Lower Hermosa Campground
About this site
Lower Hermosa Campground is located in the San Juan National Forest above Hermosa Creek, approximately 14-18 miles northwest of Durango, Colorado. It offers 18-19 first-come, first-served sites suitable for tents, trailers, and RVs up to 30 feet. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and grill. Amenities include vault toilets in the adjacent Hermosa Creek Trailhead parking lot, trash pickup, and horse corrals at sites 9, 10, 11, and 17 or nearby trailhead (horses not allowed in campground itself). No potable water, showers, dump station, or hookups available. The campground serves as the trailhead for the Hermosa Creek Trail and nearby recreation areas for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing, and ATVing. Generators allowed 6am-10pm. Bear-safe food storage recommended. Season typically mid-May to late September. Fee info: $18/night (some sources note $15), 14-day stay limit. Golden Age & Access Passports accepted.
