Lost Horse Guard Station is a historic rental cabin located 18 miles from Highway 93 in the Lost Horse Creek drainage on the west side of the Bitterroot Valley in the Bitterroot National Forest. The cabin was built in 1938 by the Works Progress Administration and features two sets of full-sized bunk beds, a wood burning stove for heat, and a propane cook stove. There is no water, electricity, or trash service at the cabin; guests must bring their own water and pack out all trash. Firewood is not provided. The cabin is accessible by wheeled motorized vehicle during summer months only; from January through March it is accessible only by snowmobile or other over-snow vehicles via a 14-mile route that may not be recently groomed. Pets are not allowed. Reservations are required and can be made through Recreation.gov.
