About this site

Lost Horse Guard Station is a historic log cabin located 18 miles from Highway 93 in the Lost Horse Creek drainage on the west side of the Bitterroot Valley in Bitterroot National Forest. Built in 1938 by the Works Progress Administration, the cabin features two sets of full-sized bunk beds, a wood burning stove for heat, and a propane cook stove. The cabin is accessible by wheeled motorized vehicle during summer months (June-December); from January-March, access requires snowmobile, snowshoe, skis, or dog sled. There is no running water or electricity; guests must bring their own water. A vault toilet outhouse is located nearby. Firewood is not provided. Pets are not allowed. Reservations are required and can be made at Recreation.gov.
