Lime Island State Recreation Area

Lime Island State Recreation Area is a 980-acre undeveloped state park located on Lime Island in the St. Marys River near Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan. The site is accessible only by boat (3 miles across the St. Marys River); visitors must charter or navigate their own boat as no ferry service operates. The recreation area features tent camping on raised platforms on a first-come, first-served basis, as well as non-platform camping on designated sites. Two and three-bedroom cottages are also available by reservation (minimum 2-night weekend stay). Amenities include water and portable restrooms. The island offers scenic views from a bluff overlooking the St. Marys River where Great Lakes freighters can be seen, hiking trails, fishing, and a sandy beach.
