The Lee Metcalf Wilderness spans approximately 250,000 acres across four units in southwest Montana: Bear Trap Canyon (BLM-managed, 6,347 acres with whitewater rafting and the Bear Trap National Recreation Trail), Spanish Peaks, Monument Mountain, and Taylor-Hilgard (USFS-managed). It offers 300 miles of trails for hiking, backpacking, camping, fishing, hunting, and kayaking, with elevations from 4,500 ft to over 11,000 ft. Access is non-motorized; trailheads include 28 entry points. Open year-round.
