LeConte Lodge
About this site
LeConte Lodge is the highest guest lodge in the eastern United States, situated on an open glade just below the summit of Mt. LeConte at an elevation of approximately 6,400 feet in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The lodge is accessible only by hiking; there are six trails to the lodge, with the shortest and steepest being Alum Cave Trail at 5.0 miles. Guests are housed in hand-built rough-hewn log cabins with propane heat, kerosene lanterns, clean linens, and warm blankets. Amenities include family-style meals served in the dining room, wash basins for sponge baths, flush toilets, and covered porches with rocking chairs. There is no electricity or running water in the cabins. The lodge has a capacity of sixty guests per night and is typically open from late March to mid-November. LeConte Lodge predates the creation of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, having been established in 1925.
