About this site

Lake Sundown is a remote backcountry lake and campsite in the southwestern corner of Olympic National Park, accessible only by strenuous hiking routes such as via South Fork Skokomish River Valley (16.4 miles roundtrip, 3700 ft gain, high point 4125 ft) or Wynoochee Pass Trail (10.5 miles out-and-back). A couple of campsites exist at the old shelter site near the lake's outlet in a semi-open emerald basin. Requires Olympic NP wilderness camping permit. No fires above 3500 ft. Snow-free July-October. Dogs prohibited. Additional Info: Best for experienced backpackers comfortable with basic facilities, creek fords, steep climbs, and low-traffic trails. Nearby attractions include Hoh Rain Forest and Sol Duc Hot Springs.
