About this site

Lac du Caribou - 1 is a backcountry canoe‑camping site in La Mauricie National Park, Quebec, Canada. The site is accessible only by canoe, kayak, paddleboard, or on foot/bike via park trails and is part of a network of 40 backcountry sites spread across 12 lakes. Each site provides access to a dry toilet, a bear‑proof food hanger, and a fireplace where wood fires are permitted. A maximum of 2 people per tent is allowed; if 2 adults are accompanied by children in a single tent, this site is designated as a family site and may accommodate them. For all other backcountry campsites, the maximum occupancy is 2 people, including children. Registration at the Saint‑Mathieu or Saint‑Jean‑des‑Piles entrance is required before heading to the campsite. Camping is by reservation only; many reservations are cancelled daily, so last‑minute bookings are often possible. Additional Info: - The Lac du Caribou sector is located in the backcountry of La Mauricie National Park and is managed by Parks Canada. - Sites are first‑come, first‑served only in the sense that cancellations create openings, but an official reservation is required to occupy the site. - Motor vehicles cannot reach the site; access is strictly by watercraft or trail.
