The Killpecker Sand Dunes Open Play Area Campground is located about 32 miles north of Rock Springs. The campground is a 10 acre flat on the edge of the Killpecker Sand Dunes Open Play Area. It contains 2 ADA accessible vault toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables, spread throughout the flat for use as group sites. The Killpecker Sand Dunes Open Play Area is part of the Greater Sand Dunes Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC). ACECs are areas within the public lands where special management attention is required to protect and prevent irreparable damage to important resources. Important resources in this area include wildlife, cultural resources, scenic values, and wilderness. The western portion of the ACEC includes the Sand Dunes and Buffalo Hump Wilderness Study Areas (WSA). Additional Info: The campground is a non-fee area and is ADA accessible. Non-motorized recreational activities such as hiking, hunting, and horseback riding are permitted. The Open Play Area is open to motor vehicle use for off-road recreation.
