About this site

Keller Peak Yellow Post Site #9 is a primitive, first-come-first-served camping site located in San Bernardino National Forest near Running Springs, California, at approximately 7,200 feet elevation. The site is accessed via Keller Peak Road (Forest Road 1N96), a narrow paved road not recommended for trailers or RVs. Site #9 is one of nine individual Yellow Post sites along this scenic 5-mile road leading to the Keller Peak Fire Lookout. Each site accommodates a maximum of 8 people and 2 vehicles. Amenities include one picnic table and one fire ring per site. There are no restroom facilities, drinking water, or dump stations. Campers must pack out all trash and follow Leave No Trace principles. The site has a 14-day camping limit in any 30-day period. No wood fires, charcoal BBQs, or charcoal stoves are allowed outside the provided fire ring. During winter, Keller Peak Road typically closes due to snow accumulation, though hiking and snowshoeing access may still be possible. Horses and pack animals are permitted with specific hobbling requirements. The site is near the Children's Forest Visitor Center and Children's Forest Exploration Trail.
