Kakwa River Provincial Recreation Area is a remote, user-maintained campground located 90-100 km south of Grande Prairie on Highway 40 in Alberta. The site features 7 non-serviced campsites with fire pits and picnic tables on a first-come, first-serve basis. Basic amenities include pit/vault toilets, garbage/recycle containment, and a non-potable water pump. The campground is accessible by a 0.5 km dirt road and offers access to the Kakwa River for fishing and hiking on informal trails. Camping fee is $25 per night (cash/cheque payment only via onsite registration box). The site is typically open seasonally from prior to the May Long Weekend until Thanksgiving, weather dependent. Pets are allowed if leashed. Quiet hours are 11 pm to 7 am.
