About this site

Kaʻaha is a backcountry campsite located on the southern coastline of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, 3.6 miles from the Hilina Pali Road trailhead. Access involves a steep downhill trail with switchbacks descending the pali cliff, followed by a flat section marked by ahu (stone cairns) across lava flats. The site features a shelter, tide pools, rocky bay suitable for snorkeling when calm, and nearby caves and archaeological sites. A total of 16 hikers permitted per night with a maximum 3-night stay.
