James Kipp Recreation Area
About this site
James Kipp Recreation Area is a 34-site BLM-managed campground located along the Upper Missouri National Wild and Scenic River near Lewistown, Montana. The campground is situated within the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge and along the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail. All campsites are first-come, first-served and can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet in length. Each site has a designated fire ring and picnic table. Amenities include vault toilets, trash dumpsters, and an RV waste dump station ($10 fee). There are no hookups available. The potable water system is currently shut down; water for the RV dump becomes operational after the last spring freeze, typically by May 15. The campground is open April 1 to December 1 annually and serves as a popular access point for boating, fishing, camping, and paddlecraft launches on the Upper Missouri River.
