Jackman Park Campground
About this site
Jackman Park Campground is located on the flanks of Steens Mountain within the Steens Mountain Cooperative Management and Protective Area (CMPA), an extraordinary landscape of deep glacier-carved gorges, stunning scenery, wilderness, wild rivers, and rich biodiversity. At 7,800-foot elevation and nestled among aspen stands, the campground offers some of the best fall color viewing on Steens Mountain. The campground features six sites available on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. A universal access restroom is available, but campers must pack out all trash. High clearance vehicles are recommended for some portions of the Steens Mountain Loop Road. The remote location means the nearest services are in the communities of Fields, Frenchglen, Crane, or Narrows. Ticks, mosquitos, and rattlesnakes may be present during summer months. The campground is accessible via the Steens Mountain Loop Road, located approximately 2 miles east of Fish Lake Campground. Nearby attractions include the Kiger Gorge Overlook with views of the gorge's glacially-carved U-shaped valley and its famous herd of wild horses, as well as the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.
