Houghton Lake State Forest Campground is a semi-modern, 50-site campground located on the northern shore of Houghton Lake, Michigan's largest inland lake. It offers excellent fishing and boating opportunities. Sites are suitable for tents and small trailers, with some accommodating up to 40-ft vehicles/trailers. Amenities include a modern restroom building (no showers), vault toilets, and potable water from hand-pump wells. Sites are first-come, first-served with no reservations required. Overnight fee is $20. Maximum stay is 15 days. No electrical hookups available. Additional Info: The boating access site is located off-site. Nearby fishing includes Muskegon River (2 miles west) and Higgins Lake (6 miles north). Open late April to mid-September.
