About this site

Horsehead Lake Recreation Area is a 98-acre no-wake lake nestled in the Ozark National Forest, managed cooperatively by the US Forest Service and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. The developed camping area offers 10 first-come, first-served campsites that can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 30 feet in length, though no hookups are available. The campground features restroom facilities with showers, a playground, and accessible picnic areas. The lake is primarily known for its excellent catfishing opportunities and allows boating with smaller motors or trolling motors due to the no-wake restriction. Swimming is permitted at your own risk. Drinking water is available from a hand pump, and visitors should be prepared to pay the $15 per night camping fee with cash or check. A day-use option is available for $3 per vehicle. Across the lake, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission offers primitive camping areas and an additional boat launch ramp. The recreation area is located approximately 15 miles from Clarksville, accessed via a combination of state highways and forest service roads through the scenic Ozark foothills. Open seasonally from March 1 to November 1.
