Holter Lake Campground

Holter Lake Campground is a 52-site campground managed by the Bureau of Land Management, located along lower Holter Lake and the Missouri River approximately 40 miles north of Helena and 40 miles west of Great Falls, Montana. The campground features spacious and level gravel parking pads accommodating RVs, camper trailers, and tents, with 9 tent-only sites. Most sites can accommodate up to 2 RVs or tents per site. All 52 sites are reservation-only, though first-come-first-served sites may be available daily after 2 PM but are not guaranteed. Amenities include potable water, vault toilets, fire rings with grill grates, picnic tables, garbage dumpsters, and a large concrete boat launch with courtesy dock and day-use/overnight dock slips. No hookups are available. Every campsite offers views of the lake and mountains. The area is surrounded by sparsely wooded hills in a shrub-steppe landscape. Recreation opportunities include fishing for rainbow trout, kokanee salmon, walleye, and perch; boating (motorized and non-motorized); water skiing; hiking; wildlife viewing; and bird watching. The site is situated in an area historically traveled by Lewis and Clark.
