Hickison Petroglyph Recreation Area

Hickison Petroglyph Recreation Area is a BLM-managed recreation area located 24 miles east of Austin, Nevada along U.S. Highway 50 at 6,500 feet elevation. The site features 16 free campsites on a first-come, first-served basis with pull-through spaces, picnic tables, barbecue pedestals, fire rings, and vault toilets. Amenities include a 0.5-mile self-guided interpretive trail with multiple petroglyph panels, a 1.6-mile overlook trail with 360-degree views of Big Smoky Valley and the Toquima and Toiyabe mountain ranges, day-use picnic areas, and trash facilities. No drinking water is available. The area is open 24 hours daily with a 14-day stay limit. Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs.
