About this site
Hickey Campground is one of three camping loops (sites 37-97) in Standish-Hickey State Recreation Area along the South Fork Eel River in Leggett, California. The campground offers shaded sites suitable for tents, trailers, and RVs up to 27 feet, with access to hiking trails, a world-class swimming hole, and redwood forests. Additional Info: Amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, showers, campfire center, picnic tables, fire rings, and firewood for purchase. Hike/bike sites available. Cell service is fair. Reservations possible. Pets allowed. Maximum stay 30 nights per year.

Decent campground right off of Highway 101. Went for 4th of July Weekend. Insanely packed, which was expected. Mostly tent campers, we brought our pop up trailer. Each site comes with a Picnic table, fire pit, kind of janky wooden storage box, and a cool rocked open fire grill setup to use for cooking if you want. Two bathrooms in campground, one with shower. Toilets got clogged/ran out of toilet paper daily. Cleaned once per day at 8-9am. Great swimming hole down a steep trail, you are going to want to take just one trip down there! So bring everything the first time. Got really busy at main beach spot, though you can walk around the bend up and downstream of that for other beach areas. Water was amazing. Hiked to the Standish Tree from the campground. General store across the street was useful for bathroom and coffee runs in the mornings. Hosts and rangers circle the campground regularly throughout the day. Firewood bundle for sale $10/bundle. Dogs must stay on 6ft leash. Not allowed on at all on some trails. Traffic from highway can get loud since it’s fairly close to campground. Suggest getting site furthest away from highway.
