Hayes Lake Campground
About this site
Hayes Lake Campground is located within Hayes Lake State Park in northwestern Minnesota, where farmland abruptly transitions to wilderness at the edge of Beltrami Island State Forest. Established in 1967, the park centers around the 180-acre man-made Hayes Lake, formed by the north fork of the Roseau River. The campground offers 35 sites nestled among tall trees, with 18 electric hookup sites available. The remote location provides exceptional opportunities for solitude and wildlife viewing, with over 200 bird species recorded in the area. The lake allows only electric motors, preserving the peaceful atmosphere. Anglers can fish for northern pike, crappie, and sunfish from an accessible fishing pier or shoreline. A sandy beach, boat ramp, and canoe rentals are available. The park features a unique bog boardwalk where visitors may spot pitcher plants, sundew, and lady's slippers. In addition to the main campground, Hayes Lake offers three walk-in sites about 250 yards from parking, and two camper cabins for those seeking a different camping experience. Additional Info: Park entrance is 15 miles south of Roseau on State Highway 89, then 9 miles east on Roseau County Road 4. Campground open May to late November.
