Green Ridge State Forest

Green Ridge State Forest is Maryland's largest contiguous block of public land at 49,000 acres, located in Allegany County between the Potomac River and the Mason-Dixon line. The forest features approximately 100 designated primitive campsites dispersed throughout, available year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with a $10 per night permit fee. All campsites include a fire pit and picnic table. The forest offers over 50 miles of hiking trails, hunting, fishing, paddling, horseback riding, and a shooting range. Campers must register at the headquarters (28700 Headquarters Drive NE, Flintstone, MD 21530) or use the 24/7 self-registration kiosk. The forest is open year-round and accepts cash or check payment only.
