The campground sits at an elevation of 4,800 feet in the high desert landscape. Gerber South is one of two developed camping areas (along with Gerber North) at the Gerber Recreation Area, which encompasses nearly 4,000 acres surrounding the reservoir. During off-season (October 1 through mid-May), camping is free but amenities such as drinking water, trash collection, and camp host services are not available. Facilities include approximately 50 gravel sites with picnic tables, fire rings, and tent pads. Vault toilets are available year-round. Seasonal potable water from hand pumps is provided during peak season. An RV dump station serves the recreation area. Maximum vehicle length is 30 feet.
