Fossil Creek

Fossil Creek is a Wild and Scenic River in central Arizona on lands managed by the Coconino and Tonto National Forests. The area is accessed via a 14-mile rough dirt road (FR 708) from State Route 260 near Camp Verde. It features eight parking lots and creek access sites including Dixon Lewis Trailhead, Irving/Flume Trailhead, Tonto Bench, Fossil Creek Bridge, Homestead, Sally May, Purple Mountain, and Mazatzal. The area has very few developed facilities; visitors should prepare for rustic and remote conditions. No camping is allowed in the permit area April 1 through October 1. Vehicles exceeding 22 feet are prohibited; trailers are not allowed.
