Fort Pierre National Grassland offers free dispersed camping throughout its 116,000 acres of public land south of Pierre, South Dakota. There are no developed campgrounds or fees required. Camp at least 100 meters from water sources and roads where designated. Minimal amenities include pit toilets at some locations; no drinking water, hookups, or trash services available—pack in and pack out everything. Open year-round with restrictions on campfires and grills; use commercial petroleum stoves permitted. Fishing and hunting opportunities nearby.
