About this site

Forest Road 688 heads east from Highway 64. The first mile of this road is off-limits to camping because it is within one mile of a developed campground (10X Campground). See Downloads below. But when you get past that range, there are dozens of previously-used campsite, as well as dozens more along spur roads branching from it. Additional Info: The road runs for 4.8 miles east from Highway 64, ending near McRae Tank. The last 3.8 miles offers dozens of previously-used campsites. Road conditions are firm packed dirt, suitable for any vehicle when remaining on the road and in previously-used campsites. Campers must not stray more than 30 feet from the side of the road. Deer, elk, and wild horses are common in the area. Mid-week camping (Monday–Thursday) is generally quieter; weekends in summer can be crowded.
