About this site

Emery Creek Dispersed North is a primitive dispersed camping area situated on the east side of Hungry Horse Reservoir in Flathead National Forest. Located in the Rocky Mountains of Northwest Montana, this free camping area sits at approximately 3,700 feet elevation, surrounded by towering mountain peaks and dense forest typical of the region. The site is accessed via Forest Road 38, the East Side Reservoir Road that runs along the eastern shore of the reservoir. As a dispersed camping area, this location offers no developed amenities. Campers must be completely self-sufficient, bringing their own water, packing out all trash, and properly managing human waste. The area falls under Flathead National Forest's food storage order, requiring proper storage of food and scented items due to grizzly bear activity. Open year-round for dispersed camping where accessible. Winter access is limited due to snow on Forest Road 38. Maximum stay is 16 days within a 30-day period.
