About this site

East Rim 6 is a small, level backpacking campsite in Big Bend National Park, located 6.5-8 miles from the Chisos Basin Trailhead via either the Pinnacles/Boot Canyon or Laguna Meadows Trails. The site is situated along a spectacular 1.5-mile section of trail high above the desert, overlooking the Sierra Quemada desert and into Mexico. The campsite is sheltered within trees 100-200 feet from the trail edge, providing good shade but no direct rim views from the site itself. Maximum 6 people and 2 tents allowed. Note: The composting vault toilet serving the East Rim campsites was destroyed by the South Rim Fire; campers are required to pack out human waste using commercial waste disposal kits such as Restop2. Pets are not allowed on trails in Big Bend National Park.
