Dry Fork -31
About this site
Dry Fork of the Belt Creek Basin is a popular spot for camping and recreation in the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest. Due to the area's mining history from the former Barker Hughesville Mining District, heavy metals such as arsenic, copper, zinc, cadmium, and lead may be present in soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, shorelines, and floodplain. The U.S. Forest Service advises visitors to wash hands and face before eating, limit hand-to-mouth contact, and take precautions to avoid exposure. Additional Info: Located about 12 miles east of Monarch in Judith Basin and Cascade Counties, south of Great Falls. Site of EPA superfund cleanup with approximately 46 abandoned mines.
